I love drawing and painting the world around me. Nature in particular really inspires me and lifts my heart. Drawing and painting the natural world gives me an excuse to sit for a while, just looking, seeing, listening, feeling everything around me – a warm gentle breeze, a swaying field of buttercups, birdsong. It helps me to be in the present moment, to put things in perspective, to see what’s really important in life.
Drawing and painting the landscape around me helps me to see things in detail that I might not otherwise have noticed. Observing a flower or a tree or a gently sloping hill for 15 minutes allows me to really see the marvel of of what I’m looking at, the line, the shape, the colour, the texture, the pattern. I can get a sense of the spirit and life in front of and all around me.
I try to get out into nature with my sketchbooks every week. It’s a great way to soothe the soul!
